Square Two-Gang Box
The RACO 189 is a 4 in. square welded box built to enclose wiring, switches, receptacles or lighting fixtures. It is made from 1/16 in. pre-galvanized steel and carries a UL Listing. The 21.0 cu. in. capacity suits two-gang residential or light commercial rough-ins.
Knockout and Mounting Limits
Ten 1/2 in. knockouts and six TKO knockouts provide entry options, but the TKO design only works with matching TKO fittings. Cover mounting uses assembled 8-32 screws, so covers must accept that thread. The box is acceptable in 2-hour fire rated walls.
Build Quality and Daily Use
Welded construction keeps the enclosure rigid during installation and over time. Pre-galvanized steel resists corrosion in dry indoor locations. Combination screw heads allow quick driving with common bits. The raised ground simplifies grounding connections without extra hardware.

Questions about this item
Which RACO 189 box should I choose for a standard two-gang installation?
The RACO 189 is a single 4-inch square, two-gang box with 1-1/2 inch depth and 21.0 cu. in. capacity, so one unit covers a typical two-gang wiring job.
What does the 21.0 cu. in. capacity mean when I am wiring the box?
The 21.0 cu. in. volume limits the total conductor fill; count each hot, neutral and ground wire plus device yokes to stay within the code-allowed fill for this depth.
How do the 1/2 in. and TKO knockouts affect the conduit sizes I can use?
Ten 1/2 in. knockouts and six TKO knockouts accept 1/2 in. conduit directly, while TKO openings can be removed for larger conduit sizes up to the box wall limits.
