RACO 509 Switch Box
The Hubbell RACO 509 is a gangable steel switch box designed for residential and light commercial wiring. It provides 12.5 cu. in. of capacity for a single device in cut-in or old work installations. Electricians and DIYers use it when adding a switch or receptacle to finished walls.
Capacity and Knockouts
The box measures 3 in. x 2 in. with a 2-1/2 in. depth and supplies four 1/2 in. knockouts for cable entry. Its 12.5 cu. in. volume limits the number of conductors and devices permitted by code. Gangable sides allow combining multiple boxes for additional capacity when required.
Fire Rating and Mounting
This model is acceptable for use in 2-hour fire rated walls when installed correctly. Integral plaster ears and clips secure the box to drywall or plaster without open stud access. It is not suited for new construction where boxes mount directly to studs or for applications requiring larger device counts.

Which knockout standard does this box use and what conduit sizes does it accept?
Four 1/2 in. knockouts are supplied, accepting 1/2 in. conduit, NMSC, armored, metal-clad or flex cable with proper fittings.
