IBM 01AC605 6TB 7.2K 12Gbps SAS 3.5" internal hard drive

SKU CH-9N9J-XTHH0

6TB 3.5" SAS 12Gbps 7200RPM internal hard drive with caddy for Storwize V5000 GEN2

  • 6 TB capacity stores large data sets
  • 7 200 RPM spindle delivers steady throughput
  • 12 Gbps SAS interface moves data fast
  • 5 inch form factor fits standard bays
  • includes IBM system storage caddy for quick install

Capacity and fit

This new IBM 6 TB 3.5 inch SAS drive spins at 7200 RPM and ships with the matching IBM System Storage caddy. It is built for Storwize V5000 GEN2 arrays and similar NearLine storage deployments that need high-capacity bulk storage.

Interface throughput limit

The SAS 12 Gbps interface sets the maximum sustained transfer rate, so the drive cannot exceed that bandwidth even if the controller supports faster signalling. Real-world throughput will also depend on the backplane, cable quality and the number of concurrent I/O requests the array handles.

Compatibility checklist

Verify that your Storwize or compatible enclosure accepts 3.5 inch SAS NearLine drives and provides a 12 Gbps backplane connection. Confirm the supplied caddy matches the drive bay latch mechanism and that the firmware revision is supported by your storage controller.

Questions about this item

Which part number should I pick — 01AC605, 01EJ070 or 01EJ072?

All three numbers refer to the same 6TB 7200RPM SAS drive; the different codes are IBM ordering variants for the Storwize V5000 GEN2.

What does the 12Gbps SAS rating deliver in a live Storwize array?

The 12Gbps SAS link provides up to 12Gbps bandwidth per port, letting the 7200RPM NearLine drive sustain sequential throughput near the interface limit during heavy read or write workloads.

Does the 3.5" SAS 12Gbps interface cap performance on a 6Gbps backplane?

Yes, the drive will negotiate down to 6Gbps on an older backplane, limiting maximum transfer rate to the slower link speed.
