Four-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module

The IBM 46Y3512 is a plug-in card that adds four RJ-45 ports to a storage system. It connects through a PCI Express host interface and supports twisted-pair cabling. The module operates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps speeds for wired network expansion.

Suited for storage administrators needing extra

This module fits systems that accept a PCI Express add-in card and require additional 10/100/1000Base-TX connections. It is not for environments that need fibre uplinks, SFP cages or port counts beyond four. Teams without an available PCI Express slot should consider other options.

PCI Express host interface determines compatibility

The card installs directly into a PCI Express slot inside the supported storage system. Verify that the target chassis provides a compatible slot and that the operating system includes a driver for this IBM Ethernet adapter before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the four 10/100/1000Base-TX ports saturate the PCI Express host link under sustained load?

The card exposes four RJ-45 ports at 10/100/1000Base-TX speeds and connects through a PCI Express host interface.

How much heat and noise does the plug-in card add when it runs continuously in a storage system?

The module is a passive plug-in card with no onboard fan; thermal output and acoustic noise depend on the host system’s cooling.

Which slot type must the storage system provide for this 46Y3512 card to operate?

The card requires an available PCI Express slot in the supported storage system.
