600 GB 15000 RPM SAS drive

This IBM HUC156060CSS200 is a 600 GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 15000 RPM with a 12 Gb/s SAS interface and 128 MB cache. It ships new with an IBM SYSTEM STORAGE caddy for direct installation. The drive is built for enterprise storage arrays that demand consistent high-speed access.

Fits Storewize V5000 bays; not for slower arrays

The supplied tray matches IBM Storewize V5000 drive bays, so administrators can slot the unit in without extra hardware. Systems limited to 6 Gb/s SAS backplanes will not realise full performance. Desktop PCs and laptops lacking SAS controllers cannot use this drive at all.

12 Gb/s SAS interface governs compatibility

The single specification that decides fitment is the 12 Gb/s SAS interface; the host backplane and controller must support this speed and connector. Without a matching SAS infrastructure the drive will not function.

Questions about this item

What does the 15000 RPM spindle speed mean for random I/O latency in a server?

The 15000 RPM rotation reduces average rotational latency to about 2 ms, giving faster response for random read and write workloads than slower drives.

What does the 12 Gbps SAS interface limit in practice?

The 12 Gbps SAS link caps the host bus at 12 Gbps per port; actual throughput depends on the drive media speed and the controller implementation.

What does the 2.5 inch form factor with included caddy require for mounting?

The 2.5 inch drive ships with an IBM SYSTEM STORAGE caddy that fits the Storewize V5000 drive bays; no separate bracket is needed.
