IBM 400GB SAS 12G 2.5" SSD

This IBM HUSMM1640ASS200 is a 400GB solid-state drive built for the IBM System x server line. It uses a 2.5-inch form factor and connects through a 12Gb/s SAS interface. The drive employs MLC flash memory and ships with the required System x hot-swap caddy.

Suited for System x hot-swap bays.

This drive suits administrators upgrading or repairing IBM System x servers that accept 12Gb/s SAS hot-swap 2.5-inch drives. Buyers whose servers lack SAS backplane support or require a different physical interface should look at other options.

12Gb/s SAS interface decides compatibility

The single specification that determines fit is the 12Gb/s SAS interface. The drive must plug into a compatible 12Gb/s SAS hot-swap backplane; a system without that exact connection cannot use this SSD.

Questions about this item

What does the SAS 12Gb/s interface cap the drive at in practice?

The SAS 12Gb/s link limits the IBM HUSMM1640ASS200 to a 12 Gb/s maximum transfer rate.

What physical space and mounting does the 2.5-inch hot-swap drive need?

It fits a 2.5-inch hot-swap bay and ships with the IBM System X caddy tray for tool-less mounting.

How is the drive installed and which step is often missed?

Slide the caddy into the hot-swap bay until the latch clicks; the step often missed is fully seating the latch to engage the SAS connector.
