IBM

IBM I340-T4 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

SKU CH-K8WK-NRKMJ MPN I340-T4

A quad-port Gigabit Ethernet server adapter that adds four RJ-45 network connections through a PCI Express x4 slot

  • Four RJ-45 ports give independent gigabit links
  • PCI Express x4 slot fits standard server chassis
  • 1000 Mbps maximum rate per port for full wire speed
  • Quad-port design reduces card count in dense racks
  • IBM I340-T4 model with MPN 94Y5167 and 49Y4241

Quad-port server adapter

The IBM I340-T4 provides four Gigabit Ethernet ports on a single PCI Express x4 card. It is built for server and workstation environments that need multiple wired network links. The adapter suits administrators adding segregated networks or link aggregation to rack-mounted systems. It is not intended for home desktop computers.

Four 1000 Mbps ports

Each RJ-45 port delivers up to 1000 Mbps downstream bandwidth. The four ports share the x4 bus, giving enough headroom for simultaneous traffic on all links under typical server loads. Very heavy concurrent throughput on every port can saturate the bus and limit peak performance. The card does not support speeds above 1 Gbps per port.

PCI Express x4 interface limit

The card plugs into a PCI Express x4 slot and uses that lane allocation for all four network ports. Bandwidth is constrained by the generation and width of the host slot. Systems without a free x4 or larger slot cannot install the adapter. No other interface or bus type is supported by this card.

Questions about this item

Will the 4-port I340-T4 work in an older server that only has a PCI Express x4 slot?

The adapter uses a PCI Express x4 interface and provides four RJ-45 ports at 1000 Mbps each, so it fits and runs in an x4 slot.

How can I confirm the quad-port card is running at full gigabit speed after installation?

Check the link lights on each RJ-45 port; they indicate a 1 Gbps connection when lit for gigabit operation.

Does the IBM I340-T4 come with cables or brackets, or do I need to buy them separately?

The box contains the network adapter only; Cat5e or Cat6 patch cables and any mounting brackets must be purchased separately.
