SCSI-2 Internal/External I/O Controller

This new IBM controller provides SCSI-2 connectivity for internal and external devices. It fits servers that still rely on the parallel SCSI bus for storage or peripherals. The card delivers a standard interface for legacy subsystem integration.

Suits maintainers of older SCSI-2 storage arrays

Buyers who need a different bus protocol or a modern serial interface should look elsewhere. Systems without a compatible expansion slot cannot use this card. It is not a RAID accelerator and offers no hardware redundancy features.

SCSI-2 parallel bus interface

The single specification that decides fit is the SCSI-2 parallel interface. Your backplane, cables and target devices must all speak SCSI-2. No other protocol or speed is supported by this controller.

How it compares

Questions about this item

What throughput limit appears first when the SCSI-2 bus runs at full speed all day?

The SCSI-2 interface caps sustained transfers at its rated bus speed, so that ceiling is reached before any on-board buffer can absorb the load.

How much heat and noise does the card produce during continuous operation?

The board has no active cooling and draws only bus power, so it runs silently and adds minimal heat inside the chassis.

Which host-bus slot and cables must already be in the server for this controller to work?

A free PCI or PCI-X slot plus internal 68-pin and external 68-pin SCSI cables are required to connect the controller.
