Server storage drive

The IBM ST2000NX0263 is a 2TB 2.5in SAS hard drive spinning at 7200 RPM with a 12Gbps interface. It ships with an IBM SYSTEM STORAGE caddy for direct installation into compatible bays. This unit is built for enterprise arrays rather than desktop PCs.

For rack arrays not laptops

The drive suits administrators expanding capacity in supported IBM SYSTEM STORAGE enclosures such as the V3700 where the supplied tray matches the chassis. It is not for consumer laptops or workstations that lack a SAS backplane and the correct 2.5in drive carrier.

Check backplane and tray fit

Verify that your storage system accepts 12Gbps SAS 2.5in drives and that the included caddy matches the enclosure slot dimensions. Confirm the controller supports the drive’s rotational speed and capacity before ordering.

Questions about this item

What server or storage array must I already have to accept this 2.5" SAS 12Gbps drive?

You need a system with a 2.5-inch SAS backplane that supports 12Gbps signalling, such as an IBM System Storage V3700 or compatible enclosure.

Will this 7200RPM SAS drive work in a bay that currently holds a slower 6Gbps SAS HDD?

Yes, the 12Gbps interface is backward-compatible with 6Gbps controllers, so the drive will operate at the lower link speed without configuration changes.

How can I confirm the drive is recognised and healthy after installation?

Check the RAID controller or operating system for a 2TB SAS device at 7200RPM, then run a SMART self-test to verify zero reallocated sectors.
