Mobile Rack for 5.25" Bay

The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB994SP-4S is a rugged rack enclosure that installs in a single external 5.25" bay. It accepts four 2.5" SAS or SATA drives ranging from 5mm to 15mm in height. Full metal construction targets medical, military, media server and industrial PC deployments. Two 4-pin power connectors reduce cable clutter inside the chassis.

Suited for High-Density RAID.

This unit suits administrators who need four hot-swap drives behind one bay for RAID arrays in space-constrained servers or IPCs. Builders requiring only one or two drives, or those without a free 5.25" front opening, should consider smaller enclosures. The dual 40mm fans provide active cooling for sustained workloads in demanding environments.

Interface Limited to SATA 6Gbps

The backplane delivers SATA 6Gbps or SAS 12Gbps over a single channel shared across all four bays. Total throughput is bound by that single link, so arrays needing dedicated bandwidth per drive will be constrained. Verify your controller supports the chosen protocol before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the ToughArmor MB994SP-4S fit in a standard 5.25 inch drive bay?

Yes, the enclosure occupies a single external 5.25 inch bay and holds four 2.5 inch drives from 5 mm to 15 mm thick.

How do I install the drives and what is the common mistake?

Slide each drive into its tray until the connector seats fully, then lock the tray door; the step often missed is securing the tray door latch so the drive cannot disconnect under vibration.

What maintenance will the dual 40 mm fans need over time?

Clean dust from the fan blades and intake vents periodically; if a fan becomes noisy or stops spinning, replace it with an equivalent 40 mm unit to maintain airflow.
