Ilford Hypam Rapid Fixer 5 Litre
Ilford Hypam is a non-hardening rapid fixer supplied as a liquid concentrate for black-and-white film and paper. It dilutes with water and works in both manual and machine processing workflows. The ammonium thiosulphate formula contains no sodium thiosulphate and is also suited to specialist X-ray, scientific and graphic-arts applications.
Mixing and hardening notes
Dilute the concentrate with water for immediate use; the fixer operates reliably between 18 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. A separate Hypam Hardener bottle can be added at a ratio of one part hardener to forty parts working-strength fixer to create a hardening solution if required. Modern films rarely need hardening, so most users will run the standard non-hardening mix without issue.
Darkroom printers and film processors
This 5 litre pack suits photographers and labs processing 35 mm or sheet film and fibre or RC paper who want a single fixer for both media. Users needing a pre-hardened fixer or a powder-based alternative should look at other products.

Questions about this item
How can I tell the fixer is working properly after mixing?
The solution should clear exposed film or paper within the standard fixing time at a temperature between 18 and 40 degrees Celsius, leaving no residual milky appearance in the emulsion.
What is included in the package and what must I purchase separately?
The package contains a 5 litre bottle of Ilford Hypam Non-Hardening Rapid Fixer concentrate; the Ilford Hypam Hardener is a separate product required only if you need a hardening fixer.
Which capacity should I choose for processing 35mm film?
This 5 litre concentrate makes a large volume of working strength solution; one litre of the separate hardener can treat up to 902 rolls of 35mm, 36 exposure film if hardening is required.
