Product identity
Ilford Multigrade FB Classic is a variable contrast black and white photographic paper coated on a 255g/m2 fibre base. The glossy surface and white base tint produce rich blacks and strong tonal rendition for darkroom printing.
Who it suits and who it does not
Photographers who want a fast exposure paper with approximately 20 seconds induction time and uniform grade separation will benefit. Buyers who need a larger pack than 10 sheets or who prefer a matt surface should look at alternative formats.
Behaviour under sustained use
The paper delivers closer speed relationships between grades and maintains sharp image production during extended printing sessions. Wash times are reduced by 50 percent compared to previous versions, which lowers water consumption over long runs.

Questions about this item
What darkroom equipment is needed to expose this 16x20" paper?
A darkroom enlarger fitted with a variable-contrast filter set or colour head, plus standard black-and-white chemistry trays and a safelight, are required to expose and process the paper.
Can this glossy fibre-based paper be processed in the same trays as older resin-coated grades?
Yes, it uses standard black-and-white developer, stop bath and fixer; the 50% reduction in wash time simply shortens the final rinse step.
How quickly should an image appear when the sheet enters the developer?
The manufacturer states an induction time of approximately 20 seconds before the image becomes visible during processing.
