Product identity and intended users
Ilford PQ Universal Paper and Film Developer is a liquid concentrate for dish or tray processing of resin-coated and fibre-based black-and-white photographic papers. It also handles technical films and general-purpose sheet films when a rapid, high-contrast developer is needed. The formulation uses a dimezone/hydroquinone derivative that produces a slightly warmer tone than Ilford Multigrade developer.
Behaviour under sustained use
The concentrate keeps well over time, so mixed working solutions remain reliable across multiple sessions. It is designed for use at ambient room temperature around 20°C (68°F) and is not suited to high-temperature or machine processing lines. Dilution ratios of 1+9 or 1+19 let you adjust contrast for different paper grades or technical film requirements.
Compatibility checks before ordering
This developer is not recommended for general-purpose 35mm or roll film formats. Verify that your workflow uses dish or tray development at room temperature rather than rotary processors or heated systems. Confirm you need a warmer-toned result on RC or FB papers and that your films fall within the technical or sheet-film categories supported.
