  • Low-profile bracket included for small-form-factor desktop upgrades

Dual M.2 PCIe adapter for B and M key SSDs

This adapter installs in a desktop PCI Express x4, x8 or x16 slot and provides one B key socket plus one M key socket. It accepts SATA or PCIe-based M.2 drives in 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 lengths. A low-profile bracket is included for small-form-factor cases. No extra power connector is required.

Build quality and daily mounting

The board uses a black PC and metal construction with eight screw holes to secure each drive at the supported lengths. Installation needs no driver and the card works with any operating system including Windows, macOS and Linux. If a SATA-based B key drive is fitted, a SATA data cable must be run from the adapter to the motherboard. Boot support is available on both sockets.

PCIe 3.0 x4 host interface decides fit

The adapter connects to the host through a PCI Express 3.0 x4 link compliant with the PCI Express M.2 specification 1.0 and SATA 3.0 for the B key socket. Maximum data transfer on the SATA side reaches 6.0 Gb/s. Buyers whose motherboard only offers PCIe 2.0 lanes or who need more than two M.2 devices should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What PCIe generation and lane width does the IMC Dual M.2 adapter use, and what throughput does that limit each M-key SSD to?

The card plugs into a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot, so an M-key NVMe drive is capped at the PCIe 3.0 x4 ceiling of roughly 4 GB/s.

Which M.2 form factors and key types fit the two onboard sockets, and what bracket is supplied?

One B-key socket and one M-key socket accept 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 modules; a low-profile bracket is included for slim cases.

How is a SATA-based B-key SSD connected to the motherboard, and what step is often missed?

A SATA data cable must be run from the adapter's SATA port to a motherboard SATA header; forgetting this cable leaves the B-key drive invisible.
