Game Overview

Once a Pawn a King is an asymmetric turn-based roguelike that blends classic chess strategy with party-building mechanics. Players gather a party of chess pieces, empower them with magical abilities, and fight through a fractured world built from the ruins of a timeless match. The game releases on PC via Steam Early Access on August 18, 2025.

Target Audience

This downloadable title suits players who enjoy roguelike unpredictability combined with tactical party management and chess-inspired movement. It is not for buyers who want a traditional chess simulation, a purely deterministic strategy experience, or a fully finished product at launch.

Platform Requirement

Activation requires a third-party Steam account and the supplied online game code. An internet connection is mandatory for redemption and play. The interface and subtitles are available in English.
