Ingersoll/Rand BMDS-2 Tool Retractor

The Ingersoll/Rand BMDS-2 tool retractor suspends hand tools weighing between 2.2 lb and 5.5 lb. A 6.5 ft stainless-steel cable allows free movement while keeping the tool within reach. The aluminium housing mounts via a suspension shackle for fixed-position installation.

Thermals noise and power draw

This mechanical balancer operates without electricity so it produces no heat and no audible motor noise. Spring tension handles the tool weight passively. No power supply or wiring is required for normal use.

Weight range 2.2 to 5.5 lb

The retractor only supports tools between 2.2 lb and 5.5 lb. Heavier equipment will exceed the spring capacity and lighter tools will not retract reliably. Buyers needing a wider weight range or a locking reel must choose a different model.

Questions about this item

How do I mount the BMDS-2 retractor and what step is often missed?

Hang the unit from an overhead support using the suspension shackle; the step often missed is verifying the tool weight falls between 2.2 and 5.5 lb before attaching the spring clip.

What part of the BMDS-2 will need replacement first?

The stainless-steel cable is the wear item; inspect it regularly for fraying or kinks and replace the cable assembly when damage appears.

At what point does the 6.5 ft cable stop extending under constant pull?

The cable reaches its hard stop at 6.5 ft; beyond that the internal spring cannot pay out more line.
