Half-Mini PCIe Wi-Fi 5 card

This Intel 7260HMW adapter adds dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.0 to laptops or small-form-factor desktops that have a free half-height Mini PCIe slot. It supports 2x2 streams on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies for a maximum link rate of 867 Mbps. The green and white PCB includes standard IPEX or U.fl antenna connectors.

Mounting screws and antenna connectors

The package supplies the tiny mounting screws needed to secure the half-height card in place. Two onboard antenna connectors let you reuse or add the required dual antennas without soldering. Driver support is listed for Windows 7 and 8 in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions; other operating systems should be checked on Intel's website.

Check slot height and OS support

Verify that your device has an available half-height Mini PCIe slot and physical room for the card plus two antenna cables. Confirm that your operating system is Windows 7 or 8, or that you can obtain suitable drivers from Intel for a different OS. This card will not fit full-height Mini PCIe or M.2 key slots.

Questions about this item

Does the Intel 7260HMW require antenna replacement over time?

The card uses standard IPEX or Hirose U.fl connectors for antennas, which are passive components and do not wear out under normal use.

What limits sustained throughput on the 7260HMW?

The 2x2 802.11ac link tops out at 867 Mbps, so the wireless PHY rate is the first ceiling during continuous transfers.

How much heat does the 7260HMW generate during all-day operation?

Intel describes the chipset as low power for maximum battery life, indicating minimal thermal output in a half-height Mini PCIe slot.
