Four-port Gigabit server adapter

The Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I340-T4 adds four 1 Gbps RJ-45 ports over a PCI Express 2.0 x4 interface. It uses the Intel 82580 controller and fits x4, x8 or x16 slots. The card is supplied in OEM packaging with a 30-day warranty.

Suited for multi-port copper links

This adapter suits servers or workstations that need four independent copper Ethernet connections in a single slot. It is not for links faster than 1 Gbps, fibre media, or builds that need fewer than four ports. It is also not for systems without a PCI Express 2.0 or later slot.

PCI Express 2.0 x4 bus width

The single specification that decides fit is the 4-lane PCI Express 2.0 bus, which requires an x4, x8 or x16 slot. The Intel 82580 controller drives four RJ-45 copper ports at 1 Gbps each.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the I340-T4 with four RJ-45 ports or a dual-port version?

The I340-T4 provides four 1 Gbps RJ-45 copper ports on a single PCI Express 2.0 x4 card, giving four independent links without using extra slots.

What does the 1 Gbps rating deliver inside a server?

Each of the four ports runs at full 1 Gbps line rate over copper cabling, driven by the Intel 82580 controller for consistent throughput per port.

How does the PCI Express 2.0 x4 interface affect real-world speed?

The card uses a PCI Express 2.0 (5 GT/s) x4 lane connection, operable in x4, x8 or x16 slots, providing ample bandwidth for all four 1 Gbps ports simultaneously.
