Compact barebone with Skylake i5

This Intel NUC6i5SYH barebone mini PC ships with a dual-core i5-6260U running at 1.8 GHz base and 2.9 GHz maximum. It includes 4 GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MT/s and a 128 GB SSD. Video output uses MiniDP and HDMI from the integrated Iris Graphics 540.

Suits home-office and signage builds

The two SODIMM slots accept up to 32 GB total memory for heavier multitasking. Front and rear USB 3.0 ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2 cover typical peripheral needs. Buyers needing discrete graphics or more than two display outputs should look elsewhere.

65 W power adapter sets the envelope

The included 65 W adapter defines the sustained power budget for the CPU, memory and storage. Any memory or storage upgrade must stay within that thermal and electrical limit. The 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN and dual video ports complete the fixed I/O set.

Questions about this item

Will the i5-6260U throttle under a sustained 2.9 GHz load?

The 65 W power adapter limits sustained turbo; expect clocks to settle near the 1.8 GHz base during long heavy workloads.

How loud and hot does the unit get when running 24/7?

A small internal fan spins up under load; the aluminium chassis acts as a heatsink, so surface temperatures rise but stay within Intel thermal limits.

Do I need to buy RAM or storage separately to boot Windows 10 Pro?

No — 4 GB DDR4 and a 128 GB SSD are already installed, so the system boots to the desktop out of the box.
