Intel Sr152 Xeon E31240V3 3.4 GHz Switch Module

Xeon E3-1240 v3 for switching workloads

The Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3 is a quad-core processor that runs at 3.4 GHz and fits the FCLGA1150 socket. It carries 1 MB of L2 cache and 8 MB of L3 cache while operating on a 22 nm process. The 80 W thermal design power suits switch modules that need steady compute in a constrained power envelope.

Sustained throughput on a 5 GT/s DMI link

Under continuous load the 5 GT/s DMI interface keeps data moving between the processor and the switch fabric without the bursts that characterise short benchmarks. The 80 W rating reflects steady-state dissipation rather than a momentary peak, so thermal planning can rely on a consistent figure. Builders who need more cores or a newer socket generation will need a different processor.
