Dual-port 10Gbps PCI-Express network adapter with automatic bypass for uninterrupted traffic during system failures
The Intel X520-SR2 is a 10Gbps network interface card built for servers and workstations that require high-throughput Ethernet connectivity. It installs into a PCI-Express slot and provides dual-port SFP+ connectivity for fibre links. The adapter targets IT environments where low latency and reliable 10 Gigabit Ethernet performance are essential for daily operations.
The card occupies a single PCI-Express expansion slot and presents two SFP+ cages for compatible transceiver modules. This layout frees up additional slots by consolidating two 10GbE links onto one bracket. Bypass circuitry maintains the optical path during a host power, hardware, or software failure so that network traffic continues flowing while the fault is diagnosed.
The adapter replaces single-port 1GbE or earlier 10GbE cards that lack bypass functionality, delivering tenfold bandwidth plus automatic fail-open protection. The jump is worth it when a single point of failure in the network path cannot be tolerated and continuous link uptime is a hard requirement for the deployment.

No thermal-throttle limit is documented for the Intel X520-SR2; the card is rated for continuous 10 Gbps operation without speed reduction.
The Intel X520-SR2 uses a passive heatsink and draws modest power, so it runs quietly with minimal temperature rise under sustained 10 Gbps traffic.
You need two SFP+ SR optics and a multimode fibre patch cable with LC connectors to connect the Intel X520-SR2 at 10 Gbps.
