A 10Gbps network adapter with one RJ45 port using a PCIe 2.1 x8 interface
The Intel X540T1BLK is a PCIe 2.1 x8 network card that adds one 10GBASE-T RJ45 port to a server or workstation. It supports 802.3, 802.1Q, 802.1p and 802.3ad standards for VLAN tagging, priority queuing and link aggregation. The controller integrates Intel VT-c, Data Direct I/O and intelligent offloads for iSCSI, FCoE and NFS traffic.
This card targets administrators upgrading existing Cat 6A cabling to 10 GbE while retaining 1 GbE switch compatibility through auto-negotiation. It is not for environments that require SFP+ fibre connectivity, multi-port density in a single bracket or PCIe 3.0 and newer electrical signalling.
The adapter requires an x8 electrical link running at PCIe 2.1 speed; reduced lane widths will constrain 10 Gbps throughput. Verify the host platform provides an x8 or wider slot with 2.1 signalling before purchase.

The adapter draws modest power typical for a PCIe 2.1 x8 10GBASE-T controller; expect warm but not extreme temperatures inside a server chassis with normal airflow.
Cat 6A cabling and a switch port that supports 10GBASE-T or auto-negotiates down to 1GbE are required for the single RJ45 link.
Yes — the X540T1 is designed for PCIe 2.1 x8 and will negotiate 10Gbps or fall back to 1GbE on legacy switches without needing a newer bus.
