Dual-port 10Gb RJ-45 adapter

The Intel X540T2 adds two 10 Gbps Ethernet ports over a PCI Express x8 slot. It targets servers and workstations that need wired 10GBase-T connectivity without changing existing copper cabling. The card ships with both low-profile and full-height brackets for flexible chassis fit.

Active cooling under load

Two onboard fans keep the controller within thermal limits during sustained 10 Gbps traffic. Fan noise is audible in quiet racks but typical for passively cooled server gear. Power draw scales with link utilisation and cable length.

Replaces single-port or 1 Gb NICs

The jump is worthwhile when aggregated throughput or link redundancy matters — backup windows, storage replication or virtualisation clusters. It does not suit builds limited to PCIe x4 slots or those needing SFP+ fibre ports.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Intel X540T2 into a PCI Express x8 slot and which bracket do I use?

Insert the card into a PCI Express x8 slot, then attach the low-profile or high-profile bracket that matches your chassis height before securing the retention screw.

What maintenance will the dual fans on the X540T2 require over time?

The two onboard fans should be cleared of dust periodically with compressed air to maintain airflow across the controller.

At what throughput does the 10 Gbps RJ-45 link become the bottleneck during sustained transfers?

The dual-port 10 Gbps RJ-45 interface caps sustained throughput at 10 Gbps per port, so that limit appears first under heavy load.
