Dual-Port 10 GbE Server Adapter

The Intel X550-T2 adds two 10 Gbps RJ45 ports through a single PCI Express slot. It targets administrators who need higher throughput on existing copper infrastructure without moving to fibre.

Standard Copper Cabling Support

The card works with Cat 6 and Cat 6a patch cables, so existing structured wiring can stay in place. Link distances from 1 metre up to 100 metres cover top-of-rack, middle-of-row and end-of-row layouts in the same chassis.

Copper Distance Constraint

Signal integrity limits reliable operation to 100 metres on twisted pair, so longer runs require fibre media converters or direct-attach optics. The PCI Express interface also caps total bandwidth to the slot generation installed in the host server.

Questions about this item

What PCI-Express generation and lane width does the X550-T2 use, and what throughput does that cap?

The adapter plugs into a PCI-Express slot; the 10 Gbps dual ports run at line rate when the host slot supplies enough bandwidth.

What bracket and slot clearance does the dual-RJ45 card need to fit?

A standard-height bracket and a single PCI-Express slot are required; the two RJ-45 ports face the rear of the chassis.

Which cable categories and lengths are qualified for the 10 Gbps copper ports?

CAT6 and CAT6A cables from 1 metre up to 100 metres are supported for Top-of-Rack, Middle-of-Row or End-of-Row layouts.
