12-core Xeon processor running at 2.5 GHz with 30 MB L3 cache for LGA 2011-v3 servers
This Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 is a dodeca-core server processor running at 2.50 GHz with 30 MB of L3 cache. It fits the LGA 2011-v3 socket and has a thermal design power of 120 W. The 22 nm process technology supports 64-bit computing for virtualised data-centre workloads.
The 12 cores and large L3 cache handle heavily threaded applications such as virtualisation hosts and database servers. Buyers who need higher single-core frequencies or lower power envelopes should look elsewhere. Systems requiring a different socket or a smaller physical footprint cannot use this part.
This processor only installs in a motherboard equipped with an LGA 2011-v3 socket. The 120 W TDP also requires a cooler and chassis airflow rated for that heat load. Verify both the socket and the cooling capacity before purchase.

The processor fits Socket LGA 2011-v3, so the motherboard must provide that exact socket.
The QuickPath Interconnect runs at 9.60 GT/s; older E5-2600 series processors use slower link speeds, so they cannot form a matched pair.
Check the BIOS or operating-system CPU information; it should report 12 cores operating at 2.50 GHz with 30 MB L3 cache.
