Industrial barcode label printer supporting direct thermal and thermal transfer printing at 203 dpi with USB, Ethernet and serial interfaces
The Intermec PM4i is a new industrial-grade barcode and label printer built for high-volume environments. It supports both direct thermal and thermal transfer printing methods. Connectivity is provided by USB 2.0 type B, Ethernet RJ-45 and serial RS-232 DB9 interfaces.
The unit runs on a universal 100-240 VAC supply at 45-65 Hz so it can be deployed worldwide without a voltage selector. Thermal transfer and direct thermal modes produce no toner dust and minimal mechanical noise. All printheads, rollers, belts and motors are tested and replaced if worn before dispatch.
The fixed 203 dpi print resolution determines label clarity and the maximum barcode density this printer can produce. Buyers who need finer graphics or higher-density codes should verify that 203 dpi meets their specification. No labels or ribbons are included in the box.

Connect the power cord to a 100-240 VAC supply at 45-65 Hz, then attach the USB-type B, Ethernet RJ-45 or RS-232 DB9 cable. The step often missed is installing the correct printer driver before plugging in the USB 2.0 or network cable so the host recognises the device immediately.
The printhead and platen roller are the primary wear items. The supplier tests every unit and replaces worn printheads, rollers, belts and motors before shipping, so the first replacement cycle will depend on label volume and ribbon quality rather than existing wear.
The 203 dpi printhead resolution sets the detail ceiling, and continuous thermal transfer or direct thermal operation will eventually hit the printhead’s thermal duty cycle, causing a pause until the head cools.
