What this cable does

The IOGEAR 8541678278 is a USB 2.0 Type A Male to Mini B 5-pin cable measuring 6 ft. It connects computers to devices such as the GoPro Hero 3+, PS3 controller, Canon PowerShot ELPH Rebel cameras, Garmin Nuvi units and TI-84 calculators. Data transfers reach 480 Mbps with backwards compliance to USB 1.1 and 1.0 speeds. The braided nylon jacket and aluminium connector shells are built for repeated plug cycles.

Thermals noise and power

The copper conductors and gold-plated contacts minimise resistance, so the cable runs cool during charging and data sessions. No active electronics are present, therefore it produces no audible noise. The assembly supports up to 96 watts of power delivery, sufficient for charging controllers, dash cams and portable cameras without voltage drop over the 6 ft length.

Bundled items and their effect

The single 6.6 ft braided cord in black is the only item supplied. Its nylon braid resists kinks and abrasion, extending service life compared with standard PVC jackets. Aluminium shells and corrosion-resistant copper conductors maintain consistent conductivity, reducing the chance of data errors when transferring images from Canon PowerShot or Rebel cameras. No software or drivers are included or required.

Questions about this item

How do I plug the USB Type-A male and Mini-B 5-pin connectors in without forcing them?

Align the wider flat side of the Type-A plug with the port and the trapezoid Mini-B plug with the device; both insert one way only — never push past the first firm click.

Will the nylon braid or gold-plated contacts need cleaning or replacement over time?

The braided jacket resists fraying; wipe the gold-plated pins with a dry lint-free cloth if they look dull — no scheduled replacement is required.

At what point does the 480 Mbps USB 2.0 Hi-Speed rate drop during long transfers?

Sustained throughput stays at 480 Mbps until the host or device throttles; the cable itself does not impose a lower ceiling.
