Edge server barebone for Xeon E-2100

The iStarUSA D-260HNSL-C246-1 is a 2U rackmount chassis designed for edge workloads. It accepts Intel Xeon E-2100 processors in an LGA 1151 socket with the Intel C246 chipset. Four 288-pin slots support dual-channel DDR4 up to 64 GB with ECC. Six trayless hot-swap bays and one internal 3.5-inch bay provide dense storage. A 500 W single power supply is included.

Thermal behaviour under continuous edge loads

The zinc-coated steel chassis and 2U height give a fixed airflow path for the included 500 W PSU and passive CPU cooler. Sustained compute tasks will raise internal temperatures until the system fans reach maximum speed. No liquid-cooling support or redundant PSU option exists, so thermal headroom is limited to the single supply and stock fan curve. Builders running constant 100 % CPU utilisation should monitor inlet temperatures closely.

Assembly steps and common pitfalls

Install the CPU, memory and drives before sliding the unit into a rack; the hot-swap trays accept 3.5-inch SATA drives without tools. Memory must be unregistered DDR4 ECC or non-ECC UDIMM; registered DIMMs will not post. The single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot shares bandwidth with the x8 and x4 slots, so only one full-length add-in card fits physically. Rear-panel video uses HDMI or DisplayPort from the processor graphics; a discrete GPU blocks those outputs.
