IVY Classic Industries, Inc. 11164 Self-Retracting Safety Utility Knife

Self-Retracting Safety Utility Knife

The IVY Classic 11164 is a spring-loaded utility knife designed for users who need a blade that retracts automatically when the slider is released. Its heavy-duty interlocking metal body and large ergonomic thumb slider suit professional tradespeople and DIYers looking for a durable, safety-focused cutting tool.

Spring-loaded blade retraction mechanism

The single specification that decides fit is the self-retracting action: the blade withdraws the moment thumb pressure is removed from the slider, reducing the chance of accidental cuts. This behaviour is fixed by the internal spring and cannot be locked open, so buyers who need a blade to stay extended without constant pressure should choose a different style.

Sustained cutting with heavy-duty blades

Under continuous use the knife accepts .025"-thick IVY Classic blades 11172 and 11178 as well as other heavy-duty utility blades, so the edge geometry and steel composition determine how long a blade lasts before it dulls. The metal body dissipates hand heat and resists flex during prolonged scoring, but blade life will vary with material hardness and cutting technique.
