Limits of the USB4 Gen 4 interface

Full 80Gbps throughput requires both host and peripheral to implement USB4 Gen 4x20G; older Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 or USB 3.2 ports will negotiate lower speeds. Video output reaches 16K@60Hz or dual 8K only when the source supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode at those rates. Power delivery above 100W needs a PD 3.1 charger and a device that accepts 48V/5A; otherwise the cable falls back to 100W, 96W, 90W or lower profiles.
