Plug-in clock with battery backup

The Königswerk SZ-836 is a mains-powered digital alarm clock that uses three AAA cells to retain time and alarm settings during a power cut. Batteries do not run the display, so an adapter is required for continuous operation. The unit measures 6.5 in wide by 1.5 in deep by 3.0 in high and shows large numerals on a black finish.

Light-sensitive sleepers and multi-schedule homes

Three brightness levels let you dim the LED so it does not disturb a dark bedroom, while dual alarms with Mon-Sun, Mon-Fri and Mon-Sat cycles suit shift workers and weekday-only risers. Buyers who need a clock that stays fully lit on battery power alone should look elsewhere.

Three-step dimmer with big-digit display

The single specification that decides fit is the 3-level brightness control combined with the large 12 or 24-hour readout. If the adjustable backlight and oversize numbers match the bedside viewing distance, this model meets the requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the box include the power adapter and the AAA batteries?

The clock ships without an adapter and without batteries; you must supply a USB power adapter and three AAA cells for backup.

Which alarm schedule should I pick — daily, weekday or weekend?

Each of the two alarms can be set to Mon–Sun, Mon–Fri or Mon–Sat, so choose the pattern that matches your routine.

How bright is the 6.5 in display at night?

Three dimmer levels let you lower the large numerals so they stay readable across the room without disturbing sleep.
