Kastar LP-E17 AC Wall Charger

The Kastar LP-E17 is a compact AC wall charger designed for photographers who use Canon LP-E17 series batteries. It replaces the original Canon LC-E17 charger with a foldable flat plug that stores easily in a camera bag. The unit accepts worldwide mains voltage from 100 to 240 volts at 50 to 60 hertz. A red LED shows charging status while a green LED indicates standby or a full charge.

Charging limits and compatibility

Output is fixed at 8.4 volts and 600 milliamps, so the charger only handles single LP-E17, LP-E17H or LP-E17HF cells. It will not charge the Canon LC-E17 or LC-E17E charger units themselves, nor does it support any other battery chemistry or voltage. The foldable pins work with standard wall sockets but add no fast-charge capability beyond the stated current. Users needing simultaneous multi-bay charging must look elsewhere.

Upgrading from the OEM charger

This charger suits owners of Canon Rebel SL2, SL3, T6i, T6s, T7i, T8i, EOS M3, M5, M6, M6 Mark II, R10, 77D, 200D, 250D, 750D, 760D, 800D, 850D, 8000D, RP or KISS X8i and X9i bodies who want a lighter travel replacement. It also works with BG-E18 and BG-E18 IR grips. The jump is worthwhile when the original charger is lost, damaged or too bulky for a minimal kit. It does not add capacity or speed compared to the factory unit.

Questions about this item

Which Canon batteries does this charger support?

It charges Canon LP-E17, LP-E17H and LP-E17HF packs. It does not work with Canon LC-E17 or LC-E17E chargers.

What does the 600 mA output mean for charge time?

The charger delivers 8.4 V at 600 mA, so a typical LP-E17 cell takes several hours to reach the green-light full-charge indication.

What input voltage range does the wall plug accept?

The foldable plug operates on AC 100-240 V at 50-60 Hz, making it suitable for worldwide mains supplies.
