What this cable is and who it serves

The Kaybles USB3-AB-6 is a 6-foot USB 3.0 cable with a Type A male connector on one end and a Type B male connector on the other. It links computers to peripherals such as external hard drives, docking stations, scanners and printers. The cable supports data transfer rates up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s) and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports. Nickel-plated connectors and foil-and-braid shielding protect signal integrity.

Who should use it and who should not

This cable suits anyone connecting a USB 3.0 Type B device to a standard Type A host port. It is not for users who need a Type C, Micro-B or Mini-B connector. It will not work for devices that require a proprietary or locking interface. Buyers who need a longer reach than six feet or a different connector combination should look at another cable.

The specification that decides fit

The decisive detail is the USB 3.0 Type A male to Type B male connector pairing. Only equipment with a matching Type B 3.0 port can use this cable. Verify the port on your peripheral before ordering.

Questions about this item

Which length of the Kaybles USB3-AB-6 should I choose for my setup?

The 6 ft length suits most desktop arrangements where the peripheral sits on the same desk or an adjacent shelf; pick a shorter cable only if devices are closer and you want less slack.

What does the 5 Gbit/s headline speed mean when I plug this cable into my external hard drive?

With a USB 3.0 host and device you can see up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s) throughput; actual rates depend on the drive and system but will be far above USB 2.0 limits.

How does the USB 3.0 Type-B connector affect compatibility with my older USB 2.0 ports?

The cable is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports, so it will work at the slower standard’s speed when connected to legacy hosts or devices.
