USB-C portable storage for mobile devices

The Kingston DataTraveler 70 provides 128GB of capacity in a compact flash drive built for USB-C notebooks, tablets and phones. Its portable design includes a protective cap for transport. The drive targets users who need extra space on devices that only offer a USB-C port.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 speed ceiling and device compatibility

The interface delivers up to 400 MB/s read and 625 MB/s write, roughly ten times the throughput of USB 2.0. Performance is limited by the host controller and cable quality. The drive works only with devices that have a native USB-C port or a verified adapter.

Plug-and-play installation with cap management

No drivers are required on modern operating systems; the drive mounts instantly when inserted. The main installation issue is losing the small protective cap, which leaves the connector exposed to debris. A lanyard loop on the body helps keep the drive tethered during use.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 128 GB version or a larger one?

The drive is offered in 128 GB; no larger capacity appears in the specifications.

What does the 400 MB/s read speed mean when I copy files?

Large files such as videos or backups will move at up to 400 MB/s, so a 10 GB folder transfers in roughly 25 seconds.

Which USB standard does the drive use and what does it limit?

It uses USB 3.2 Gen 1, capping the theoretical maximum at 5 Gb/s and real-world throughput to the stated 400 MB/s read and 625 MB/s write.
