Installation and Chip Reliability

Each cartridge arrives with a new ink-level chip that reports remaining ink to the printer without workarounds. Simply remove the protective seal and insert the cartridge into the matching colour slot. The chip is recognised immediately, so ink levels appear on the computer and the printer panel without disabling any monitoring feature.

Home Photo Printers Seeking Value

Households printing mixed documents and photos on the listed PIXMA models get a full colour set at a lower cost per page. Users of other Canon printers or those needing higher page yields per cartridge should look at alternative configurations.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the ink levels are reporting correctly after installing the PGI-220 and CLI-221 cartridges?

Each cartridge includes a new chip that communicates with the printer; open the printer driver on your computer and confirm the ink-level display shows full bars for all 14 cartridges.

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The set contains 4 PGI-220BK pigment black, 2 CLI-221BK black, 2 CLI-221GY gray, 2 CLI-221C cyan, 2 CLI-221M magenta, 2 CLI-221Y yellow cartridges plus a complimentary 20-sheet pack of 4x6 premium glossy photo paper; no additional items are required for printing.

Should I choose the pigment black or the dye black cartridges for text documents?

The 4 PGI-220BK cartridges use pigment ink designed for sharp text on plain paper, while the 2 CLI-221BK cartridges use dye ink suited for photos; use the PGI-220BK for everyday documents.
