Low-voltage bell wire for chimes and buzzers

This 20 AWG bell wire is supplied in a 65 ft clam-shell pack with assorted colours including black, white, green and yellow. It is intended for wiring wired chimes, bells, buzzers, push buttons and transformers in residential or light-commercial installations. The conductor rating supports a maximum low-voltage load at 48 V.

Limited to 48 V maximum low-voltage circuits

The wire is rated only for 48 V maximum low-voltage loads, so it must not be used on mains-voltage or higher-voltage control circuits. Its 20 AWG gauge restricts current-carrying capacity, making it unsuitable for long runs with significant voltage drop or for powering devices that exceed the stated low-voltage limit.

Questions about this item

Which length and gauge combination fits a typical doorbell run?

The reel provides 65 feet of 20 AWG conductor, which is the standard size for low-voltage chime and push-button wiring.

What does the 48 V rating mean when the wire is installed?

It confirms the insulation is tested for low-voltage circuits up to 48 V, covering standard doorbell transformers and the small loads used with wired chimes, buzzers and push buttons.
