The Lee Filters SW150 150x170mm Reverse-Graduated ND 0.9 Filter is a hand-manufactured camera filter designed for precise exposure control during sunrise and sunset. Its 0.9 density reduces light by three stops, allowing wider apertures or slower shutter speeds in bright conditions. The filter is non-coated for natural colour rendition and compatible with lenses of 24mm or wider on a full frame DSLR.

Upgrading from standard graduated filters

Standard graduated neutral density filters place their darkest area at the top, which can over-darken the sky above the horizon. This reverse-graduated design places the strongest density in the centre, transitioning smoothly toward the edges to match the brightest part of a sunrise or sunset. The jump is worth it when the horizon line is the brightest element in the frame, such as seascapes or open plains.

Three stops of density balanced across a 150

The 0.9 density comfortably handles bright golden-hour light, letting you keep detail in the sky without underexposing the foreground. The smooth transition prevents a harsh stripe at the horizon, delivering a balanced image across the frame. It runs out when the dynamic range exceeds three stops or when using lenses wider than 24mm on full frame, where the transition zone may become visible.
