Scalable 10 Gb Ethernet fabric

The Lenovo Flex System Fabric EN4093R is a plug-in module for the Flex System Enterprise Chassis. It delivers Layer 2/3 switching with OpenFlow and easy connect modes. The switch supports virtualization features such as Virtual Fabric and VMready and is Software Defined Network ready.

Enterprise chassis networking deployments

This module suits administrators building a 10 Gb or 40 Gb Ethernet infrastructure inside a Flex System chassis. It is not for environments that require standalone rack-mount switches or fibre channel storage connectivity beyond the two ports provided.

Twenty-four 10 Gb Ethernet ports

The unit provides fourteen fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports plus ten SFP+ ports that accept 10 Gb or 1 Gb transceivers. This port count determines the density available in each I/O module bay.

Questions about this item

What maintenance will the 2 Fibre Channel ports require?

The 2 Fibre Channel ports are fixed interfaces with no user-serviceable parts; keep firmware current via the management interface to maintain compatibility.

Which limit appears first under sustained load on the 14 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports?

The 10 Gbit/s line rate on each of the 14 ports is the first ceiling; aggregate throughput cannot exceed the per-port speed.

How much heat does the EN4093R module generate when running all day in the Flex System chassis?

As a plug-in module it relies on the chassis fans; power draw scales with active 10 Gbit/s links, so heat rises with port utilisation.
