Purpose and audience

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is a 15.3 inch Windows 11 Home laptop built for home and personal use. It suits students, office workers and anyone who wants a touch-enabled screen in a slim chassis. The integrated AMD Radeon 740M graphics handle everyday media and light creative tasks. Buyers who want discrete graphics for gaming or heavy 3D work should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The display is a 15.3 inch WUXGA IPS touch panel with 1920 x 1200 resolution, 300 nits brightness, 60 Hz refresh and 45% NTSC colour coverage. Anti-glare coating reduces reflections in bright rooms. Touch input works with Windows gestures and inking apps. Users who need wider colour gamut, higher refresh rate or a non-touch matte screen will not be served by this panel.

Installation and common issues

The laptop arrives ready to use; Windows 11 Home is pre-installed and the 32 GB DDR5 memory plus 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD (512 GB + 512 GB) require no user assembly. Ports include USB-C with power delivery and DisplayPort 1.2, two USB-A 5 Gbps, HDMI 1.4, micro SD reader and a combo audio jack. The IR camera supports Windows Hello with a physical privacy shutter. Some users find the 45% NTSC screen too washed out for colour-critical work and the 60 Wh battery may need a mid-day top-up under heavy load.

Questions about this item

What does the Ryzen 5 8540U boost to 4.90 GHz mean when the laptop is running everyday workloads?

The processor reaches 4.90 GHz for short bursts such as opening apps or compiling code, then settles at the 3.20 GHz base to keep thermals and battery life in check during sustained work.

How does the USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 5Gbps limit external display and data use?

The port drives one 4K monitor at 60 Hz through DisplayPort 1.2 while capping data transfers at 5 Gbps, so high-speed SSDs or docks will not reach their full throughput.

Will the 15.3 inch chassis at 0.70 inch thickness and 3.59 lbs fit a standard 15 inch laptop sleeve?

At 13.52 by 9.43 by 0.70 inches and 3.59 lbs it matches typical 15 inch sleeve dimensions, though the exact fit depends on the sleeve's internal clearance.
