Ultraportable 14-inch laptop

The Lenovo IdeaPad U400 is a 14.0-inch ultraportable laptop built for professionals who need a lightweight Windows 7 Professional machine with a full aluminium chassis. It combines a non-touch HD display and an integrated slot-in DVD drive in a frame under one inch thick.

750 GB hard drive and 6 GB DDR3

The 750 GB hard drive provides generous space for documents, media and applications while the 6 GB of DDR3 memory at 1333 MHz keeps everyday multitasking responsive. Heavy video editing or modern gaming will exceed the discrete graphics and mechanical storage limits.

Aluminium body with HDMI and USB ports

The graphite grey aluminium body resists flex during daily transport and the integrated DVD writer adds convenience without external accessories. HDMI output and three USB ports handle external displays and peripherals while the French Canadian keyboard suits bilingual workflows.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i5-2450M and 6GB DDR3 memory handle the same everyday workloads as my older dual-core laptop with 4GB?

The i5-2450M runs at up to 3.10 GHz with 3M cache and the 6GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz, so web browsing, office apps and video playback will feel noticeably snappier than a 4GB dual-core system.

How can I verify the AMD Radeon HD6470M with 1GB VRAM is active after installing drivers?

Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters and confirm Radeon HD6470M appears; then run dxdiag and check the Display tab shows 1GB dedicated video memory.

Does the box include the French Canadian keyboard, slot-in DVD drive and HDMI cable, or must I buy any of those separately?

The French Canadian keyboard and integrated slot-in DVD reader/writer are built into the chassis; an HDMI cable is not included and must be purchased separately.
