IdeaPad Y500 gaming laptop

This Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6-inch laptop built for gaming and multimedia work. It runs Windows 10 Home on an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with 16GB of DDR3 memory. A 2TB solid-state drive provides the primary storage, while an NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics card handles visual output on a 1920x1080 non-touch display. The system includes a backlit keyboard, UltraNav touchpad, Blu-ray writer and Bluetooth 4 connectivity.

Buyers needing modern GPU features

The notebook suits users who want a ready-to-run Windows 10 machine with a large SSD and discrete graphics for older titles or media editing. It is not suited to buyers who require a newer graphics architecture, a touchscreen panel, or a current operating system licence out of the box. The 16GB memory ceiling and single drive bay also limit future expansion for memory-heavy workloads.

2TB solid-state drive capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 2TB solid-state drive. It determines how many games, project files and media libraries can reside on the laptop without external storage. If the workload demands more internal space than 2TB, this unit will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

How fast can the USB 3.0 ports transfer data in practice?

USB 3.0 supports up to 5 Gbit/s, though real-world throughput depends on the connected drive and cable quality.

What physical drive bay does the 2 TB solid-state drive occupy in the Y500?

The 2 TB SSD installs in the standard 2.5-inch internal bay; the Ultrabay slot remains free for a second drive or the included Blu-ray writer.

Which step is often missed when adding a second drive to the Ultrabay?

Many users forget to screw the caddy into the Ultrabay latch before sliding it in, so the drive is not detected until the latch clicks fully.
