Gaming laptop for multimedia and creative work

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 pairs an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid-state drive. An NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics card drives the 15.6 inch 1920x1080 display. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate use.

Ultrabay flexibility and connectivity

An Ultrabay slot lets you swap the optical drive for extra storage or a second GPU without opening the chassis. Three USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 4 provide fast peripheral and wireless links. The backlit keyboard and ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad support work in low light.

Capacity for projects and media libraries

The 500GB solid-state drive holds operating system, applications and large media files with fast boot and load times. Sixteen gigabytes of memory keeps multiple creative suites and browser tabs responsive. The GT650M handles modern titles at medium settings but will limit frame rates in the latest AAA games.

Questions about this item

Will the Core i7-3630QM throttle at 3.4 GHz during long gaming sessions?

The processor runs up to 3.4 GHz, but sustained loads can trigger thermal limits that lower clocks until the chassis cools.

How loud does the cooling get when the GT650M and CPU run all day?

The dual-fan system spins up noticeably under continuous load, producing audible airflow while keeping the GT650M and i7-3630QM within safe temperatures.

Does the Ultrabay slot need a second GT650M for SLI to work?

The Ultrabay accepts an additional GT650M module; without it the laptop runs on the single installed GPU.
