Gaming laptop for multimedia creators

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a 15.6 inch laptop built for high-performance multimedia and extreme gaming. It runs Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics. A backlit keyboard, ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad and HD webcam complete the package for creative work and play.

1TB SSD capacity with 8GB DDR3 memory

The one terabyte solid state drive provides fast boot times and swift data transfer for large media libraries. Eight gigabytes of DDR3 RAM supports multitasking across graphics, audio and processor intensive applications. Memory and storage headroom suits current projects, though very large datasets or modern AAA titles may exceed the available RAM.

Discrete graphics thermals with Ultrabay flexibility

The NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics card handles vivid images for cinema and gaming workloads. An Ultrabay slot offers hardware flexibility for additional cooling or expansion options. Dolby Home Theater and JBL speakers deliver immersive sound without relying on external audio hardware during normal use.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i7-3630QM and DDR3 memory still run my older USB 3.0 peripherals without an adapter?

Yes, the laptop includes USB 3.0 ports that are backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices, so existing peripherals will work directly.

How can I confirm the NVIDIA GeForce GT650M discrete graphics card is active after installing drivers?

Open Device Manager under Display adapters; the GT650M should be listed there, and the NVIDIA Control Panel will show the GPU as the preferred processor for 3D applications.

Does the box include a Blu-ray disc or external drive, or must I buy media separately?

The laptop has an internal Blu-ray RW drive built into the Ultrabay, so no external drive is needed; blank Blu-ray media must be purchased separately.
