Built for gaming and creative work

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 combines a 15.6 inch FHD display with a discrete NVIDIA GT650M graphics card and an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB solid state drive and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed. This configuration targets users who need portable performance for multimedia editing and gaming.

Practical limits of the USB 3.0 interface

The laptop provides USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfer with compatible peripherals. Actual throughput depends on the connected device and cable quality, and will not reach the theoretical maximum in everyday use. Bluetooth 4 handles short-range wireless accessories but does not support newer low-energy audio profiles. The GT650M drives the internal panel and external outputs within its native capability.

Check your software and peripheral needs

Verify that your applications run on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and that any external displays you plan to use are compatible with the available video outputs. The 250GB SSD offers limited space for large game libraries or media projects, so confirm the capacity fits your workflow. The non-touch screen and fixed 8GB memory mean those features cannot be added later.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 250GB SSD or add a second drive in the Ultrabay?

The 250GB solid-state drive gives fast boot and load times; the Ultrabay slot lets you add another drive later if you need more space.

What does the Core i7-3630QM's 3.4GHz turbo mean for everyday use?

The quad-core processor reaches 3.4GHz on short bursts, so heavy tasks like video encoding finish quicker while normal work stays responsive.

How fast are the USB 3.0 ports in practice?

USB 3.0 runs at up to 5Gbps, so large file transfers to external drives are noticeably quicker than on older USB 2.0 connections.
