Gaming laptop for multimedia creators

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 pairs an Intel Core i7-3630QM processor with a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card to handle demanding creative and gaming workloads. A 15.6-inch FHD panel at 1920x1080 resolution delivers sharp visuals while Dolby Home Theater and JBL speakers provide immersive audio. Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit ships pre-installed on the 250GB solid-state drive.

Sustained load behaviour with discrete graphics

Under continuous load the GT650M discrete GPU maintains performance for extended gaming or rendering sessions without relying on integrated graphics alone. The 8GB DDR3 memory and solid-state storage keep data flowing to the CPU, which can reach 3.4GHz under thermal headroom. USB 3.0 ports sustain fast peripheral throughput during long work periods.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that Windows 8.1 Pro meets your software licensing requirements as newer operating systems may not be officially supported. Confirm the single 250GB SSD capacity suits your storage needs since no secondary drive bay is present. Ensure Bluetooth 4 and three USB ports cover your peripheral connectivity without requiring additional adapters.

Questions about this item

Does the NVIDIA GT650M graphics card make the laptop loud or hot during all-day gaming sessions?

The discrete GT650M handles graphics load separately from the Intel Core i7-3630QM processor, which runs up to 3.4 GHz, so heat and fan noise stay manageable during extended use.

What must I already own to start using the Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit system right away?

The laptop ships with the operating system pre-installed, 8GB DDR3 memory, and a 250GB solid-state drive, so only a user account and network connection are needed.

Can I keep using my existing USB 3.0 peripherals with the three USB 3.0 ports on this unit?

Yes, the three USB 3.0 ports provide full backward compatibility with earlier USB devices while delivering the faster 3.0 transfer rate for newer drives.
