ThinkPad P50 mobile workstation

The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built for professional workloads. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a quad-core Intel Core i7-6820HQ processor with a 3.60 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 64 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro M2000M GPU with 4 GB GDDR5 handles graphics.

Suits CAD and video editors.

This configuration suits engineers, designers and editors who need certified drivers and colour-accurate output on a 1920 x 1080 LED-backlit panel. Thunderbolt 3, HDMI and Mini DisplayPort support multiple external displays. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a lighter ultraportable should look elsewhere. The Grade B chassis shows wear on keys, touchpad and exterior surfaces.

64 GB DDR4 memory decides capacity for large

The single specification that decides fit is the 64 GB DDR4 memory. It determines whether the laptop can hold large assemblies, timelines or virtual machines without swapping to the 1 TB NVMe SSD. If your workflow needs more RAM than this fixed amount, the P50 will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

What existing peripherals do I need to use the Thunderbolt 3 port?

You need Thunderbolt 3 cables or docks that match the USB-C connector; the port also accepts standard USB-C accessories at USB speeds.

Can I keep using my 1080p monitors with the Mini DisplayPort and HDMI outputs?

Yes, both outputs support 1920 x 1080 resolution, so your current Full HD displays will work without scaling issues.

How can I verify the Quadro M2000M is active after driver installation?

Open NVIDIA Control Panel or Task Manager GPU tab; the Quadro M2000M with 4 GB GDDR5 should appear as the dedicated GPU for 3D workloads.
