Lenovo ThinkPad P53 Mobile Workstation

The Lenovo ThinkPad P53 is a new 15.6 inch mobile workstation running Linux Mint. It uses an Intel Core i7-9750H six-core processor reaching 4.5 GHz and 16 GB of DDR4 memory. A 1 TB NVME drive and NVIDIA Quadro T2000 graphics with 4 GB video memory complete the core specification.

Professionals needing certified graphics on Linux

This laptop suits engineers and designers who require ISV-certified Quadro drivers on a Linux platform. The 72 percent colour gamut and 300 nits brightness limit its use for critical colour grading. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a wider colour space should look at something else.

NVIDIA Quadro T2000 4 GB GPU

The Quadro T2000 with 4 GB dedicated video memory decides whether this workstation fits your workflow. It provides certified stability for CAD, DCC and visualisation applications. If your software demands more video memory or a higher GPU tier, this model will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the Intel Core i7-9750H is reaching its 4.5 GHz turbo frequency under load?

Open a terminal and run a monitoring tool such as s-tui or turbostat while a heavy compile or render job runs; the reported peak core frequency should show 4.5 GHz on at least one core.

What is included in the box and what must I purchase separately for the ThinkPad P53?

The laptop, its AC adapter and power cord are included; no docking station, external monitor or additional RAM modules are supplied.

Which display specification should I choose for colour-critical work on the 15.6" panel?

The single 1920 x 1080 IPS option covers 72 % colour gamut at 300 nits and is the only display offered with this model.
