Mobile workstation with dual storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad P53 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation running Linux Mint. It pairs an Intel Core i7-9750H six-core processor with 16GB of DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro T2000 graphics card with 4GB of video memory. Storage consists of a 2TB NVME drive plus a 2TB 2.5-inch SSD, and the display is a 500-nit FHD IPS panel with HDR Dolby Vision.

Suited for Linux-based engineering workflows

This machine suits developers and engineers who need certified Linux drivers, ISV-tested graphics, and large local datasets on a single device. The fingerprint reader and dTPM encryption support secure boot and data protection. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a higher core count, or a newer GPU architecture should look at alternative configurations.

Dual-drive capacity decides fit

The combination of a 2TB NVME boot drive and a 2TB 2.5-inch secondary drive provides 4TB of total solid-state storage without external enclosures. If a project demands more than 4TB of internal SSD space or a different drive form factor, this specific unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

What does the NVMe interface cap for the 2TB drive in practice?

The NVMe drive provides fast read and write speeds for the operating system and active projects, reducing load times for large datasets and applications.

What physical drive bays or slots are needed for the 2TB NVMe and 2TB 2.5-inch storage?

The laptop uses an M.2 slot for the NVMe drive and a standard 2.5-inch bay for the second SSD, both already populated in this configuration.

How is Linux Mint installed on this workstation, and what step do people often miss?

Linux Mint comes pre-installed and configured; the common oversight is not enrolling a fingerprint in the reader settings after the first boot.
