Mobile workstation for professionals

The ThinkPad P53s combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8565U processor with NVIDIA Quadro P520 graphics in a 15.6 inch Full HD chassis. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 2TB SATA SSD provide capacity for large project files. Windows 10 Pro, a fingerprint reader and a 720p webcam complete the business-ready package.

Suited for CAD and ISV workloads on the move

Engineers and designers who need certified Quadro drivers and a colour-accurate 1920 x 1080 display will benefit from this configuration. The 3.9 lb weight and 57 WHr battery support all-day mobile use. Buyers who require higher GPU memory or a touchscreen should evaluate alternative models.

Quadro P520 with 2GB GDDR5 decides fit

The professional GPU drives external monitors via HDMI and Thunderbolt while accelerating viewport performance in SolidWorks, AutoCAD and similar applications. If your workflow demands more than 2GB of dedicated video memory, this graphics subsystem will be the limiting factor.

Questions about this item

What does the 4.60 GHz turbo frequency mean when the i7-8565U is inside this ThinkPad P53s?

The processor can boost one core to 4.60 GHz for short bursts while staying within the 15 W power envelope of the P53s chassis.

How does the Thunderbolt port limit what I can connect in practice?

The port runs at USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds so external GPUs or dual 4K displays will be bandwidth-limited compared with Thunderbolt 3 or 4.

Will a standard 2.5-inch SATA drive fit alongside the existing 2TB M.2 SATA SSD?

No, the P53s has only one M.2 2280 slot and no 2.5-inch bay so the 2TB SATA SSD occupies the sole internal storage position.
