Mobile workstation for ISV-certified apps

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who run ISV-certified applications. It combines an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with 32GB of DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro M620M GPU. Windows 10 Pro and a fingerprint reader support secure enterprise access.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The quad-core processor reaches a turbo frequency of 3.80 GHz within a full-sized chassis that accommodates dual storage drives. The spill-resistant keyboard and TrackPoint allow extended sessions without external peripherals. IPS anti-glare display technology reduces eye strain during long work periods.

Quadro M620M with 2GB VRAM for certified workloads

The NVIDIA Quadro M620M graphics card provides 2GB of dedicated video memory for hardware-accelerated workflows in certified professional software. Buyers who need more graphics memory for large assemblies or GPU rendering should consider a different model. The 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD and 1TB HDD offer combined speed and capacity for active projects.

Questions about this item

How do I upgrade the RAM in the ThinkPad P71 and which slot is commonly missed?

The 32GB DDR4 ships in two SODIMM slots; the lower slot under the keyboard is often overlooked so check both before adding modules.

Which storage drive will likely need replacement first in this P71?

The 1TB mechanical hard drive has moving parts and a shorter lifespan than the 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, so plan to swap it sooner.

What thermal limit appears first during a long render on the Quadro M620M?

The GPU hits its thermal ceiling before the CPU, causing the M620M to throttle clocks while the i7-7700HQ still has headroom.
